Patna: Dedicating NTPC Limited's 660-MW Unit#2 of Barh Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) on Friday at Barh in Patna, Bihar, Union Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy RK Singh said, "Before the inauguration of this unit, NTPC was supplying 99 percent of Bihar’s power requirement, while the rest of the demand was met from hydropower projects in the North-East and through import from Bhutan. With the fourth unit of NTPC Barh STPP coming online, 100 percent of Bihar’s power requirement will be met by NTPC and it will be met through power generated within the state."

The minister congratulated team NTPC, including all engineers and workers involved in the project, for successfully completing the unit.

Will commission final unit of Barh STPP within a year: NTPC CMD

Speaking on the occasion, NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh thanked the minister for offering all support required for the commissioning of the fourth unit of Barh STPP and exuded confidence about commissioning the final unit of the project within a year. "We are positive about dedicating the final unit (unit III) of NTPC Barh STPP to the nation within a year," said the NTPC CMD.

"This has become the largest non-pithead thermal power plant in NTPC’s portfolio. This plant will be useful for supplying 24x7 power to Bihar for a very long time," he added.

Later, the minister felicitated the engineers and workers associated with the completion of Unit #2 (660MW) of the project.

Gyanendra Kumar Singh, MLA, Barh also spoke on this occasion.

Power Grid's CMD K Sreekant, NTPC's Director (HR) Dillip Kumar Patel, Director (Projects) Ujjwal Kanti Bhattacharya senior officials of Govt of Bihar, NTPC and other dignitaries were also present.
